Project Hyacinth

Hyacinth, it is kind of flower, it means forgive, sorrow, loveliness. Project Hyacinth is one of projects i am working for, to help the young girls who are suffered from unwanted pregnancy to escape from the sorrow experience of abortion or production.

Last week we had an action to voice out the need of the girls in order to alarm the society to put a positive attitude on the girls. we hope the girls can have a better life even they have the experience of abortion!

Inner Challenge

Today i have a hiking with my volunteers as we need to site visit a place where we will held a program call "Inner Challenge". The aim of the program is to train up the teenagers to have the persistence and the ability to face the adversity.

I like hiking, but i scare too high mountain and climb down the mountain wheather than climb up. Before i teach teenagers how to breakthrough, i need to face my own adversity and breakthrough it first. That's why i like Adventure Based Counseling (ABC) as it is a good experiential learning, not only for the participant but also for the leader!

Our slogan is "We persist, be there with you".

Fight for our rights!

In 2000, the government cutted the budget of the social welfare, included the wage of the social worker. At the same year, i studied social work in the university.

In this year, as the financial situation is better than before, the governemnt spend more money on the Government Social Welfare Department, the social workers who are working at the Social Welfare Department can have a higher wages than those who are working at Non-government Organization (NGO).

Under this situation, we discover that there is unfair between the social workers who are working at Social Welfare Department and NGOs. Because of this, we organized an assembly and a parade on this Wed. We are fighting for the justice of the social welfare and services.

On that day, there are 5000 social workers took half day off for the assembly and parade. We hope that we can use our voice and action to change this worse situation. We hope that we can persist until we get what we want!

my 1st Peer Counselor Group after back to Hong Kong

There are four sessions of the group and the topic is drug abuse. The members who are recruited from the discos are willing to quit from the drug abuse. As i have a high expectation of the group, i feel very stressful and makes me get stomachache finally, feel pity but also feel happy as i think the group has a quite good opening!

My New Office

Before i left Hong Kong to Australia, my office was at Aberdeen in Hong Kong Island. During I was in Australia, my office was moved to Kowloon. It's my new office! There are 6 social workers and 5 peer counselors with only 6 desks in the office, you can imagine how crowd it is. Because of this, we may move to another place in the few months later. Luckily, we always stay outside to work rather than stay at the office, so we can share the desks in order to tackle the crowded problem at that moment. Hope we can find another good place as soon as possible.

After the team meeting on Wednesday night, the atmosphere between the colleague seems to become better and i feel good for this result. Hope we can keep smiling even we work at a harsh time. Let's cheer up together!!!

Simore in Hong Kong

Simore who i met in Berri arrived at Hong Kong yesterday. Today I met her with Alex, we have dinner and watched the firework in front of the harbour. As there was Typhoon in Hong Kong yesterday also, the weather is not very good and rain a lot. It affects the quality of the firework, hope she still can enjoy it!

Hey guys, i am waiting for you to come and visit Hong Kong too. Hope to see u soon in here!!!

Feel so frustrated

It's my 3rd day work, but i already work at the same organization for three years before. I knew that my job was very demanding because of heavey workload and difficult cases.

Before i came back, i heard that the situation is worser than before, as too much work with limited manpower. i can feel the frustration of my colleague. Last night, my boss asked me the comment of this situation, i told him the true. However, i didn't know the other colleague agree my action or not, it makes me feel frustrated too.

Last night i tried to have a self-evaluation about that, I don't know my action is correct or not, but i think the attitude is the most important thing. i know i always in trouble in conversation becasue of call a spade a spade. i should be bare in mind about that, but i believe i only want to build up a more humble and peaceful working environment instead of frustrated, complain....hope they can understand me and hope i can learn from this incident too. God Bless......

Youth Power

I am a youth social worker, my job is to providing drug and sex counseling services to high risk young people who always stay in Discos, night club or pubs. The society always blame on the youth, such as label they are the trouble maker, disempower their abilities and so on. However, I believe that youth have their unique and powerful abilities, but they can’t come out under the limitations of the society. I really feel sad about that……

Today, when I went to a bookshop, one girl approached me and introduced that there was a counter for selling their products. The girls are come from one high school, they like painting so much and decide to create their own brand. Once time, they heard that they can set up a counter and sell their products at the shop if they can pass the interview about how good is their “idea”. Finally, they passed the interview and can sell their product in there. When I heard about their story of how to reaching their dream, it encourages me a lot and reaffirm my belief that youth have their powerful abilities. It’s a very beautiful picture.

I will start to work on next week, I know it is very difficult to work with my service target as I need to spend lots of time on them, I really feel stressful but now I obtain more energy from the girls. I hope I can try my best to go with my service targets, cheer up!!!!!
